A speciality among Christmas markets, for just one week each year Tübingen hosts a market dedicated to all things chocolate. ChocolART is the biggest chocolate festival in Germany and showcases chocolatiers from around Europe. Colourful illuminations bring the cobbled streets and traditional buildings of the old town to life. This sets the scene for a chocolate extravaganza.
Peruse the market stalls piled high with gourmet truffles, pralines and novelty chocolate shapes. There are plenty of free tasters to sample along the way. Hot chocolate is offered in a mind boggling variety of flavours so it can be hard to choose. We enjoyed the lemon cherry hot chocolate. There is also a chocolate art competition, with some spectacularly detailed masterpieces and chocolate cooking demonstrations. Over the course of the 6 day festival, around 80 tonnes of chocolate are sold and it's getting bigger every year.
